June 2012
The weekend of June 3 was very exciting as we prepared for and celebrated Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee. On Friday and Saturday, many hands decorated the church and main hall. There was a workshop on Saturday morning to make fascinators, those fancy, small hats for women. On Sunday there was a special service and then we feasted while listening to British tunes and competing in a royalty trivia contest. It was very fun to see the many hats and outfits paying tribute to Commonwealth traditions. This wonderful event was made possible by all who gave their time, donated beautiful flowers and greenery from their gardens, and created tasty delicacies from their kitchens. Thank you!
The church was filled with symbolic greenery and Commonwealth flags:

Meanwhile downstairs, folks were in fascinator-making mode:
Then Sunday June 3 was the big day!
