Noel Fraser has filmed many of our homilies and uploaded them to You Tube. Timeless, aren’t they?!
March 23, 2014: Hospitality is the centre of how Jesus chose to talk about, and to show people the Kingdom on earth. Through eating and drinking with people, he showed, he taught, he lived the message. And in his Radical Act of Hospitality told in Luke 19:1-10, with Zacchaeus, the tax collector, he offered new life, new relationship, and hope such that the man changed his life. For us, this is about finding people “where they are”, taking a chance, reaching out, and forging new relationships.
March 16, 2014: Michael Knowles continued on the Holy Conversations theme, with a homily on The Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes; the Table Still Stands, the Offer is Still Open.
March 9, 2014: Rick’s homily to kick off the Lenten “Holy Conversations” workshops led by Christyn Perkons. The wilderness, temptation, manna, our bread of life, hope…: theme for the liturgy and theme for the first workshop.
February 23, 2014: Rick’s homily on how Jesus challenges us to a higher, a heavenly, standard of behaviour (Matthew 5:38-48); provocative and disruptive; how can we possibly live up to it?! Listen at end of clip for the Guitar choir singing I Feel the Winds of God Today.
February 2, 2014: I know many of you have been waiting for this: Jean Hoover’s homily, in which she presented “The Spirit Within The Flowers“. Her faith story is inspiring and the photos lovely!
Very special: February 9, 2014: Re-dedication homily by the Venerable Bishop Michael Bird … and a bit of the choir, too (special treat)
January 19, 2014: Rick responded to two “huge” stories in the gospel according to John 1:29-42 and preached on:
- John’s spiritual experience when he realized Jesus was the One, and
- the significance of Jesus turning towards those who were hanging back to ask “What do you want?” Rick decoded the question and the answers to suggest a model for St. Paul’s as we discern our future. Why do we come to St. Paul’s? Let’s share the answers with those who might also respond to what we find meaningful here.
January 12, 2014: John the Baptist, Jesus’ baptism, change and renewal are all thoughtfully addressed in Rick’s very timely homily following our Parish meeting of the 7th.
January 5, 2014: Guest homilist, Venerable Steve Hopkins, spoke to us about his experiences at St. Christopher’s with developing a “discernment, holy-conversation process” that explores ways “to let God get some traction with us.” He gave examples of how hearts, minds, and even behaviours of participating parishioners have changed. This is an excellent reference for us over the next few months.
Dec. 29, 2013: in this homily, Rick introduces the question we will embrace over the next few months: what can we do that we’re not doing now that will help make us a more faithful, vibrant, and vital community in our re-sized and beautifully renewed home? E.g., what are we going to be? What do we want to be? What is God calling us to be? Who are our neighbours? How do we relate to our neighbours? And so on….
Dec. 8, 2013: Rick’s Advent 2 homily in which he explains John the Baptist’s advent, the meaning of Advent now, and pays tribute to Nelson Mandela who lived advent to action.
No longer new, but still worth a view!! March 10, 2013
A Gem: Bringing Us a New Perspective on Life, Love, and Relationships: homily by Reverend Rick Jones; look for the “blank white wall” analogy!
Watch as our dear friend and long-time parishioner Mary Margaret Pocius is announced as a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. It all happened Sunday, February 10, 2013, at St. Paul’s before the 10:30 service. David Christopherson, Member of Parliament for Hamilton Centre, a politician who knows Mary Margaret and St.Paul’swell, made the presentation. Congratulations, Mary Margaret! We love you!
